Google's New AI Results Are Here. Are You Showing Up?

Google is rolling out AI-generated answers in search, and if your site isn’t optimized, your business could get skipped entirely.

Welcome to The Growth Report

It’s Ben Wright here, founder of Risely.

You’ve heard us talk about how tools like ChatGPT are changing how customers find your business. But here’s something even more immediate.

Google is now answering customer questions directly with AI-generated results instead of sending them to your website.

This new feature, called AI Overviews, is already being tested in live searches across the U.S. It’s changing what people see first when they search for your services or your competitors.

Let’s break it down.

What Are Google’s AI Overviews?

AI Overviews are automated summaries that appear at the top of Google’s search results, generated using their Gemini-powered AI.

Instead of showing a list of links first, Google presents a few paragraphs of AI-generated text that summarize answers pulled from websites, business listings, review platforms, and other trusted sources.

For example, someone searches:

“Best air conditioning repair companies near me”

And Google responds with:

“Here are three top-rated AC repair companies in your area: Smith Heating, CoolPro Services, and Johnson HVAC. Customers often highlight their quick response times and upfront pricing.”

AI Overview:

The issue? If your business isn’t mentioned or even linked, you’re invisible.

How AI Overviews Change the Search Game

Traditionally, SEO has been about ranking on page one. But AI Overviews now appear above those results, taking over what used to be the top spot.

This means:

  • Your site could still be ranked #1 but get fewer clicks

  • Customers might make a decision without ever visiting your site

  • Google’s AI is deciding what to show based on trust, clarity, and authority

How to Increase Your Chances of Being Featured

To appear in AI Overviews, focus on these key areas:

1. Write Clear, Helpful Content
Google favors content that directly answers common questions. Review your site and ask yourself:

  • Are you answering specific questions that customers ask?

  • Is your content structured and easy to skim?

  • Do your blogs and service pages feel helpful and location-specific?

2. Strengthen Your Authority Across the Web
AI Overviews pull from sources Google already trusts. Make sure your business is:

3. Avoid Fluff and Keyword Stuffing
Don’t rely on low-effort content or AI spam. Focus on producing high-quality copy that sounds natural and provides real value.

4. Build Topical Relevance
Create content around related topics to show you’re an expert. For example:

  • A main service page titled “Air Conditioning Repair in Dallas”

  • Supporting blogs like “Top Signs Your AC Needs Repair” or “How to Save Money on Cooling Costs in Summer”

Together, this builds authority and increases your chances of showing up in AI-generated summaries.
